DMT SANDBOX is a visually intense, first-person psychedelic exploration experience set inside a vast forest environment. The game is specifically designed to be played while under the influence of DMT, LSD, psilocybin, cannabis, or other psychedelic substances. It serves as a digital environment built for deep visual and sensory immersion during an altered state of consciousness.

Core Experience - Players are given complete freedom to move through a large, open forest with no invisible walls or loading screens. You can walk, glide, or float in any direction for as long as you wish. The environment is fully interactive with the trip intensity, meaning every tree, leaf, patch of ground, and section of sky responds in real time to both your physical movement and the current intensity level. As time passes and intensity increases, the forest undergoes a continuous and dramatic metamorphosis. Trees begin to breathe and pulse. Branches twist and sway in unnatural rhythms. The ground undulates like water or breathing skin. Complex geometric patterns emerge across every surface, slowly multiplying and evolving into denser layers of sacred geometry. Colors become extremely vibrant and start shifting through rich palettes of neon purples, magentas, electric cyans, glowing golds, and iridescent greens. At the core of DMT SANDBOX is a fully controllable Intensity system that governs the strength, complexity, and density of all visual and audio effects in real time.

Players can adjust intensity in two ways:

  • Using the mouse wheel to make gradual, precise changes.
  • Holding the Space key to simulate deep breathing, which raises intensity more quickly and immersively.

Intensity scales smoothly from very mild visual enhancements to extreme, full-breakthrough levels. At higher intensities, the number of active fractal patterns, the strength of breathing effects, the density of particles, the severity of screen distortions, and the frequency of entities all increase dramatically. This system gives the player full agency over how powerful and overwhelming they want the experience to become at any given moment.Visuals & Hallucinations

 elements include:

  • Pronounced and constant breathing/pulsing animations applied to trees, branches, leaves, grass, rocks, and the terrain itself.
  • Intricate flowing fractal geometry and sacred patterns that emerge from surfaces, crawl across bark and leaves, and multiply into self-similar structures.
  • Heavy chromatic aberration, RGB color separation, and color fringing that become more pronounced as intensity rises.
  • Dynamic screen warping, wave distortions, subtle fish-eye effects, and ripple-like distortions across the entire view.
  • Powerful bloom and glow effects that make luminous elements radiate with intense light.
  • Advanced particle systems filled with glowing orbs, geometric shards, energy trails, sparkling fragments, and floating motes that react to player movement.
  • Translucent, ethereal entities that appear more frequently at higher intensities. These beings drift through the trees, hover in clearings, and subtly respond to the player’s position and gaze.
  • Shifting sky and atmospheric effects, including repeating mandalas, geometric lattices, and folding patterns that become increasingly complex.
  • Constant micro-movements and visual noise that make the entire world feel alive and breathing.

At peak intensity, the screen can become densely layered with multiple overlapping systems of geometry, light, and motion, creating a deeply hypnotic and disorienting psychedelic field.

Audio Design

It features deep, resonant drones, layered crystalline tones, heavily processed natural sounds, evolving harmonic pads, and fractal-like buzzing textures. As intensity increases, ethereal vocal elements and soft, distant voices become more noticeable. Internal body sounds such as breathing and heartbeat grow louder and more prominent, helping ground the player while simultaneously intensifying the overall immersion. All audio is spatialized, meaning sound direction and distance change naturally as the player turns their head and moves through the forest. The combination of visuals and audio creates a powerful, cohesive sensory experience.

Controls

  • WASD — Move through the forest (movement becomes more floating and gliding at higher intensities)
  • Mouse — Look around (click the screen to lock the pointer)
  • Mouse Wheel — Adjust trip intensity up or down
  • Space (hold) — Breathe deeply to increase intensity faster
  • Shift — Slow movement speed and enable gentle floating

Ego Death Mechanic

If the player maintains maximum intensity for an extended period without lowering it, the experience can reach an overwhelming threshold and trigger an β€œego death” sequence. This results in a powerful, full-screen visual and audio climax that eventually fades out, gently returning the player to a calm starting area where they can begin a new session.

DMT SANDBOX as a Foundation

DMT SANDBOX is the pure sandbox and visual playground version of a larger, more ambitious DMT-themed game currently in development. This version focuses exclusively on open-ended exploration and maximum visual intensity with no narrative or structured gameplay elements. It serves as a testing ground and proof of concept for the visual systems, intensity mechanics, audio reactivity, and overall psychedelic atmosphere that will be featured in the full future game. The full version is planned to expand upon this sandbox with additional modes, deeper narrative elements, structured experiences, and new environments while maintaining the same high level of visual trippiness.

Intended Use

DMT SANDBOX is built first and foremost as a visually trippy game to be played while already high. The stronger the player’s altered state, the more effective and immersive the experience becomes. It is best experienced in a dark or dimly lit room, with good headphones or speakers, and with sufficient time to fully engage with the evolving visuals and sound. The game contains no goals other than free exploration and direct engagement with the continuously changing psychedelic environment.
